The Northern Ontario Ag Conference is an annual conference held to create connections and increase collaborations across the agricultural industry in Northern Ontario. This year’s theme is “Cultivating Connections & Celebrating Sustainability”. Back in person after the pandemic, attendees can look forward to lots of time to network and learn about sustainability through a Northern Ontario lens. Sessions will focus on research happening in Northern Ontario, producer panel discussions to hear about producers’ experiences farming in Northern Ontario, interactive workshops, and more.
KSEs available at the Northern Ontario Ag Conference:
1:30 p.m. – Session #3: Sustainability in Agronomy (Cover Cropping KSE)
- Dr. Josh Nasielski, University of Guelph
- Josh will discuss his research on cover crops, reduced tillage, oat lodging and more in Northern Ontario. To be followed by a producer panel discussion.
2:30 p.m. – Session #4: Forage Opportunities (Rotational Grazing KSE)
- Christine O’Reilly, OMAFRA Forage & Grazing Specialist
- Christine will discuss the role of forages in carbon sequestration. To be followed by a producer panel discussion.
4: 15 p.m. – Session #5: Nutrient Management (Nitrogen Management KSE)
- Chris Brown, OMAFRA Field Crops Sustainability Specialist
- Chris will talk us through how to efficiently manage manure in a cropping system using the 4R strategy and considering current fertilizer prices.
